  Mosquito Spraying
Adult Mosquito Spraying in Erie County to Control the Threat of West Nile Virus The Erie County Department of Health will conduct spraying to control the adult mosquito population where sampling indicates the presence of mosquitoes that can potentially carry West Nile virus. Weather permitting, spraying will be conducted in the following area: Wednesday, July 18 Harborcreek Township – the wooded area north of Iroquois Avenue, west of Walbridge Road and south of Crosley Road All control work will begin near dusk. The weather delay date is Thursday, July 19. An ATV sprayer will be used. The product being used, Biomist 3+15, is designed to kill adult mosquitoes, while posing no danger to people, animals or plants. In accordance with state protocol, this Department recommends that area residents close their windows and doors for 30 minutes after the truck passes through the area. Certain species of mosquitoes carry West Nile virus, which, when transmitted to people, can cause West Nile encephalitis, an infection that can result in an inflammation of the brain. Anyone can get the virus, but older adults and people with compromised immune systems have the highest risk of developing severe illness because their bodies have a harder time fighting off disease.
